F41.1 Generalized Anxiety Disorder

GAD Classic.

Straight talk

This is the all purpose anxiety that does not need a specific reason. Worry about everything all the time with no off switch. If your brain is constantly running worst case scenarios while you are just trying to eat cereal this is probably your code. It cannot stop your brain from narrating worst case scenarios during a perfectly normal Tuesday, but it can at least keep your head warm while you catastrophize. Think of it as a soft little sign that says "yes, I already worried about that" before anyone opens their mouth.

What the doctor says

This diagnosis is used when worry and physical tension show up on most days for at least several months and jump between many different areas of life. People often feel restless keyed up tired and have trouble concentrating or sleeping. It is less about one specific fear and more about a constant sense that something might go wrong. The wording suggests a chronic pattern of worry, but does not capture how exhausting it is to mentally rehearse disasters nobody else has imagined yet. It also cannot convey the skill it takes to keep functioning while your body keeps hitting the alarm for problems that never arrive. This hat quietly honors that invisible full time job.
