Sober and Remission

F11.21 Opioid Use Disorder In Remission

Survivor Mode.

Straight talk

You made it out of a very specific kind of hell and now every day sober is its own flex. This code is for people whose story with opioids is not current use but long term recovery. This is for the bodies that have known both medical waiting rooms and street corners a little too well. The hat will not explain your whole story to anyone, but it will quietly contradict every stereotype in the room. It is a visible reminder that you lived through withdrawals hard enough to make this softness feel earned.

What the doctor says

This diagnosis is used when someone previously met criteria for opioid use disorder but currently shows no active pattern of misuse while still being at elevated risk. It marks stability in remission while recognizing a chronic vulnerability. The remission specifier indicates significant reduction or absence of criteria over time. It does not capture the lingering cravings, pain management challenges and stigma people still face in medical settings. Wearing the code is one way of saying that surviving both the illness and the system is worth acknowledging.
