F43.22 Adjustment Disorder With Anxiety

Situational Specials.

Straight talk

Something specific happened and now your nervous system will not calm down about it. You were mostly okay before but this event flipped the switch. This is the code that shows up when life throws a grenade into your schedule and your brain responds by hitting every panic button in the building. The hat is here to say "of course you are anxious" without trying to fix it with a motivational quote. It pairs well with deep breaths, group chat rants and not being okay on a deadline.

What the doctor says

This diagnosis is used when anxiety symptoms such as worry tension or sleep problems develop in response to an identifiable stressor. The distress is out of proportion to the situation or causes significant problems in functioning but does not meet criteria for another anxiety disorder. The diagnosis is often used when symptoms emerge after major life changes but do not meet full criteria for another anxiety disorder. That technical distinction does not make the racing thoughts, restlessness or dread feel any less intense. The hat adds a line the chart omits: of course you are struggling, a lot just happened.
